Environmental Virology
Human
enteric viruses may be present in domestic sewage, treated
wastewater, recreational surface waters, and biosolids. These
pathogens are excreted in feces and have a very low infectious dose. The detection of viable
viruses indicates the definite presence of fecal human pollution and of
other human
pathogens. It is ultimately a means of monitoring water quality and
clasification biosolids for land application (Class A biosolids)....

Environmental Parasitology
Helminths and protozoan parasites are very resistant to environmental conditions and to disinfection methods used in conventional water treatment; therefore, these organisms may be present in drinking water and water used for recreational purposes. The presence of even a small number of Cryptosporidium or Giardia cysts poses a definite risk to human health as the dose required to cause infection is very low.

Source Tracking
BCS is pleased to announce the development of novel host specific
genetic markers that can be used specifically to identify sources of
pollution. Our laboratory has worked closely and successfully
with numerous local, state and federal agencies in tracking sources
of fecal pollution. In addition we have an active research
program that strives to further identify markers of source derived
fecal pollution.
BCS is
also pleased to announce that it has joined forces with the Source
Molecular Corporation of Miami, Florida to provide innovative
microbial source tracking (MST) services. All microbial source tracking
services are now offered through Source Molecular. More...
Cytotoxicity
Testing
We provide direct
contact cell culture or agar diffusion testing of materials to be used in
medical devices or materials for cytotoxicity of CCL-1 (L-929) cell culture.
Assessment of cytotoxicity by this method is one of the many tests used to
evaluate the biological response to a material intended for medical use.

Our firm has extensive experience in designing novel protocols for testing experimental devices for the presence of a variety of pathogens. More...
Bacterial Detection and Enumeration
A variety of bacterial pathogens can be present in food and water samples. Our lab routinely tests for and quantifies these organisms on a per sample basis.
